“Around half a million patients are harmed and some 3,000 people die each year as a direct result of failings by GPs, doctors, dentists, physiotherapists and chiropractors. Sometimes mistakes are made by a failure to diagnose a health problem correctly, diagnosing the wrong condition or through a delay with the diagnosis.”

I’ve been misdiagnosed – what can I do?
Persons working in healthcare strive to provide the best opinions when diagnosing an illness, disease or injury. However, in reality, it’s often difficult to determine the cause of a medical condition. Misdiagnosis is common. If medical mistakes occur, you can make a medical misdiagnosis claim. These claims may result in compensation.
Mistakes during hospital treatment can cause serious damage. There are a wide range of causes for medical negligence. For example, failing to take the patient’s history into account, not examining the patient properly or making a poor record of all their symptoms. Other medical failings may result from missed or incorrectly interpreted:
- Blood tests
Patients can also suffer as a result of their GP or dentist failing to provide the correct treatment or not noticing when a health problem becomes worse. Mistakes can also occur as a result of inadequate care during and after a surgical procedure.
In the event you decide to make a medical misdiagnosis claim, our team of Clinical Negligence solicitors are here to provide help and advice. We’ll listen to your experience and concerns and work closely with you in moving forward. Our aim is to secure you the maximum amount of compensation. We do this by handling your case with care and compassion.
What is Medical Misdiagnosis?
Medical misdiagnosis falls into two main categories, late diagnosis and missed/incorrect diagnosis.
When an illness or injury is diagnosed at an advanced stage or missed, this is classed as a late diagnosis. For instance, you may have previously visited a medical professional about your symptoms and not received treatment.
An incorrect or missed diagnosis can be extremely distressing for clients. This can result in people being told they’re very unwell when they’re actually in good health. However, for others, the opposite can occur. As a result, this means serious conditions can be left untreated.
In previous years, we’ve represented a wide range of clients across the South West to help them gain the compensation they deserve. Some examples of the medical misdiagnosis claim cases we’ve worked on include:
- Cancer misdiagnosis
- Misdiagnosis of heart conditions
- Incorrect administration and prescription of medications
- Misdiagnosis of internal injuries and bleeding
- Incorrect diagnosis of broken or fractured bones
