All of our lawyers are very hands-on with the work. Our lawyers are expected to demonstrate leadership behaviour from a very early stage, and every single person is critical to our success. The quality of our trainees and lawyers helps us to deliver the best vlient experience, and we often find that this a key reason why clients return to us, again and again.
Our Employment team is best known for advising commercial clients in relation to their employment needs, including providing far-reaching strategic advice, and the successful defence of Tribunal claims.
For our location and size, we have a very strong and diverse client base – including household names, PLCs and large employers in the retail and leisure industries. Other sector strengths are pharmaceuticals and medical devices, hotels, and manufacturing. Many of our client relationships are more than a decade old, and the practice continues to grow organically through recommendations by existing commercial client contacts.
We pride ourselves on ensuring we have a thorough knowledge of our clients’ ethos, priorities and business aims. The team maintains and builds its client base by providing commercial and practical advice, rather than simply providing advice as to legal principles.
We are unique in our area in having three quarters of the team dedicated solely to commercial employment advice and acting for respondents, rather than acting for individuals. The remainging 25% of the team, not only provides advice to commercial clients, but also specialises in advising and representing senior executives.
The Commercial team here at Nash have a wide range of expertise and enjoy their varied workload which makes full use of that expertise. Acting for businesses of all types and sizes – from sole traders to large well known local, regional and international operations – the commercial team is able to provide tailored advice and support for most businesses. We have also assisted a number of charities and CICs, including assisting unincorporated charities transitioning to become Charitable Incorporated Organisations and dealing with the property elements of that process.
Services include the drafting of terms and conditions (increasingly including for online operators), distributor and franchise agreements, shareholder and partnership agreements, and advising on the sale and purchase of businesses both as asset sales/purchases and share transfers. Transactions range in value and often include multi-million-pound deals but we will cater for more modest arrangement too. We can also offer advice on data protection requirements, confidentiality and copyright issues.
In all cases we look to provide a pragmatic and balanced approach, appropriate to our clients’ needs.
Our Commercial Property team are dynamic and supportive, working for a variety of clients ranging from individual property investors/developers to national occupier clients. We have a busy workload, spanning all of the core elements within the commercial property sector.
We have strong established relationships with our clients and we want our team members to be part of those relationships, as well as forming new ones. Every member of the team has access to all clients and work is allocated according to who is best placed to take that particular transaction on and deliver the best service to the client.
We deal with all aspects of commercial property law; whether that is commercial leases and all associated matters; acquisitions and disposals of single or multi-let investment property; development work (both residential and commercial) through from site acquisition to end unit sales/leases; and secured lending work.
We have a varied client base who each have their own ethos and our job is to tailor our advice accordingly, brining transactions to a conclusion to the complete satisfaction of our clients, on time and on budget. Your role will be to forge relationships with these existing clients as well as bringing new clients in.
Commercial Dispute Resolution
The Commercial Dispute Resolution team is relatively new, and this has immediate advantages. We work closely with the non-contentious teams in the firm, to include the employment, commercial, property and private client teams, in providing a full range of legal services. This has helped, quite unusually for a team of litigators, to develop a large number of regular clients. Whilst this has helped expand the type of practice we offer, it is also highly rewarding to work regularly with established clients and be part of their own journeys.
It also means that we advise and assist on a wide variety of matters. It would not be unusual, on any given day, to be asked to advise on a disputed will or trust, consider the restrictive covenants within an employment contract, take instructions on a commercial lease renewal whilst issuing proceedings on a shareholder or partnership dispute.
Whilst most firms talk about variety of work, we practice the same, daily. Whilst this variety can be challenging, it is also rewarding and has assisted greatly in the development of the team.
As a team, we recognise that Dispute Resolution is a dynamic area of practice. It is important that we continue to match this dynamism in how we respond to changes in the legal landscape and, perhaps more importantly, our client’s own, ever-changing circumstances. This has been keenly felt over the last 12 months; where our clients have experienced new and unprecedent challenges, we have responded.
We have a strong family law practice offering the full range of services across finance and public and private children law, and have niche expertise in cases involving domestic abuse. We have a thriving Collaborative Law offering.
We have dedicated senior resources with very experienced Partners and lawyers specialising in public law children work.
Our Matrimonial team is one of the strongest in the area. We deal with divorce and separation, finance, private law children cases and domestic abuse as well as a growing number of collaborative cases.
We pride ourselves on ensuring that qualified lawyers retain day-to-day conduct of the cases we undertake. We also have four able paralegals who assist the lawyers, rather than being the client’s first port of call which is much more common at other law firms.
Combined, the team is the highest ranked in the area, appearing in both Chambers (Band 1) and Legal 500 (Band 3).
We offer expertise in a full range of Private Client services inclusive of Will drafting, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Probate, the establishment and management of Trusts together with Succession Planning.
Our client base is varied with many long-established clients including high net worth individuals, business owners, farmers and elderly clients situated in the UK and internationally.
Team members communicate directly with their clients on a day to day basis to ensure a personalised service.
Our growing team of specialist personal injury lawyers are experienced at putting together claims for a variety of clients who have been injured in accidents, acting on a no win, no fee basis.
We act for the Claimant in various different claim types including but not limited to cyclist, motorcycle and pedestrian road traffic accidents, accidents in the workplace, accidents in public, catastrophic accident claims, brain and spinal injuries, and severe road traffic collisions.
Our team has been recognized by the Legal 500 for having a great niche in military claims, and we often act against the Military of Defence.
Not only do we cover accidents causing injury, but our team also specialise in medical negligence claims, dealing with fatal injury claims and misdiagnosis.
Our team focus on ensuring that we deliver a compassionate, understanding service with a strong focus on attaining the best possible compensation for clients, and look to give swift, yet efficient, resolution to claims.
The team deals with clients who have physical, mental or psychological healthcare issues. This is predominantly the elderly, but also some learning disabled or acquired brain injury clients and their families. We assist either them or their carers with Wills and Powers of Attorney. We can also act for the client as an attorney when they have no friends or family who can act, or if the family is in conflict and needs independence.
We also advocate for clients to ensure that they get the care that they want, in the setting that they choose and are empowered to make decisions about their future as far as is possible to achieve. We can advise clients regarding care funding, either via the local authority or the NHS, with NHS Continuing healthcare funding or s.117 aftercare funding if someone has been detained under the mental health act. The team are a great resource for clients and potential clients, as if we can’t help, we will always refer them to someone who can.
